Instrument Procurement FAQ

Clear answers about free AI Blueprints, technical review, RFQ-ready reports, and optional sourcing support.

What is included in a free AI Blueprint?

A free AI Blueprint turns the application details you provide into an initial requirement outline, missing-condition checklist, technical risks to verify, and a practical next step for selection or review.

It is a pre-procurement advisory tool, not a purchase commitment. The usefulness of the result depends on the completeness of the operating details supplied.

For critical safety, compliance, or acceptance decisions, use the Blueprint as a structured starting point and request a human review before finalizing an RFQ.

Do I need to know the instrument model before I start?

No. Start with the job, the target, the operating conditions, and the decision you need to make. A model name is useful context, but it is not required.

Many procurement teams start with only a department request, a process problem, or an existing instrument that is not working well.

The advisory process is designed to identify the missing questions before comparing models, rather than forcing an early product choice.

Can I use the output in an RFQ or tender?

Yes. The output is intended to help structure technical questions, operating conditions, acceptance checks, and supplier comparison criteria for early RFQ preparation.

Before issuing a formal tender, confirm any legal, safety, standards, and site-specific requirements with the accountable engineering team.

A project-specific consultant review is the better route when the document will control a critical purchase, acceptance test, or installation decision.

Do you recommend Chinese instrument brands?

Yes. Recommendations can include Chinese and international brands when they meet the application requirements, support expectations, evidence needs, and procurement constraints.

Brand origin is not a substitute for technical fit. The comparison should consider the operating range, verification method, calibration or service path, available accessories, delivery, software, documentation, and total cost.

For a formal recommendation, assess the current model revision and local support rather than relying on a brand-level assumption.

What is free, and what requires a separate commercial agreement?

AI Blueprints, early technical consultation, and pre-procurement review are free. Managed sourcing or transaction support is optional and only begins under a separate, transparent agreement.

You can use the free advisory route without buying through Instruments Works.

If managed sourcing is requested, the scope, any service fee, and relevant supplier relationship are disclosed and agreed before supplier introduction or commercial action.

Does a free review contact suppliers on my behalf?

No. A free review focuses on clarifying your requirements and evaluation criteria. Supplier contact or transaction support only happens when you explicitly choose a separate managed sourcing scope.

This separation lets you use the technical report independently for your own research, tender, or vendor conversations.

It also prevents an early technical discussion from being treated as authorization to share your project details with suppliers.

Can I keep the Blueprint and report?

Yes. The report is intended to support your internal research, procurement discussion, and early RFQ preparation whether or not you pursue optional sourcing support.

Use it as a working brief, then update it when the operating conditions, supplier response, or acceptance requirement changes.

For a final purchasing document, make sure the accountable engineering and procurement teams verify all project-specific statements.

How are my application details and Blueprint handled?

The details submitted for an AI Blueprint or consultant review are retained to generate, administer, and follow up on the requested advisory service. They are not published as customer content.

Share only the information needed to describe the selection problem. Avoid uploading trade secrets, controlled drawings, personal data, or confidential details that are not required for the advisory request.

For sensitive projects, ask for the appropriate review channel and confidentiality process before providing protected information.

What information makes an instrument recommendation more reliable?

The most useful inputs are the target to be measured, normal and extreme conditions, minimum meaningful change, access and safety limits, evidence required, timeline, and budget constraints.

Photos, existing datasheets, sample signals, process drawings, and known failure modes can help when they are relevant and safe to share.

A clear statement of what decision the measurement must support is often more valuable than a long list of unranked preferences.

How quickly can I get an AI Blueprint or consultant review?

An AI Blueprint is generated during the session. A human review is asynchronous and depends on the complexity and completeness of the application information provided.

A precise written requirement, relevant attachments, and a stated decision deadline help make the follow-up more efficient.

For urgent technical decisions, use the AI Blueprint first and include the deadline when requesting consultant review.

Can I request support across languages and time zones?

Yes. Written project context is the most reliable starting point across time zones, and the review form lets you state preferred language, availability, and communication preference.

Use concise technical language, units, operating ranges, and photographs or diagrams where appropriate. This reduces ambiguity before any follow-up conversation.

Where a live discussion is needed, provide several suitable time windows in the request.

How are brands and models compared?

Models are compared against the application conditions, must-have acceptance criteria, operating workflow, verification path, service availability, and commercial constraints rather than a single brand preference.

The objective is to make trade-offs visible: what is mandatory, what is preferred, what creates uncertainty, and what should be confirmed in a supplier quote.

Optional sourcing discussions are kept separate from the free technical recommendation so the user can retain an independent brief.
